Even before typical pre-teen dreams of driving a car or going to the school prom entered my mind, I was busy putting plans in place for what I call a dream career—helping kids and people develop self-esteem, focus and discipline through sports and professional fitness.
As a typical boy growing up around sports, I decided at the ripe old age of 10 that I would someday start a program that focused around my dream of organizing sports & fitness programs for kids and adults. I was getting so much out of sports that I realized how important it was. I always wanted to do something good and focused my time on that.
My education was structured around my childhood vision, having attended West Valley College in Saratoga, where I received education in business and exercise science. At 18, I became a certified professional trainer and later received many certifications in sports training, nutrition, martial arts conditioning, functional strength training, therapy and wellness.
I began practicing martial arts in my childhood. My formal training began at Lees Martial Arts in San Jose, California after graduating high school in 1993. I trained under Master Instructor Lee Thompson originally, then eventually under Master Instructor Jerry Maloney who is the current owner of Lees Martial Arts. I received my 1st Degree Black Belt in American Kenpo Karate in 2004 and since then have trained in MMA, Muay Thai, Jiu-Jitsu and Tai Chi.
In 2000, I began competing in local open style tournaments throughout the bay area with great success and received many awards for competition from 2000-2008 including competitor of the year for fighting from 2002-2005. I was successful in many tournaments including the USA Karate Federation (silver medal), Long Beach Internationals (1st place), Las Vegas Internationals (1st place), San Francisco Internationals (1st place) and the National Black Belt League Sport Karate World Games (2nd place). After earning national rankings in the NBL, I placed 3rd in the Sport Karate World Games for the Black Belt Heavy Weight Continuous Fighting division in both 2004 & 2005. In 2006, I won 2nd place competing in the finals for the NBL World Title.
I have been a martial artist and professional trainer for the past 18 years, and I am now the Athletic Director for the San Jose Athletic Club. My passion is fitness and my focus is on helping others develop their mind and body through personal training & martial arts.
